Helping HYG keep a full schedule

As you well know, a healthy hygiene department is a major part of ensuring not only that production goals are met, but that your doctor’s schedule is full in general. We don’t have to hammer in the importance of your hygienist’s schedules being full and to goal, you already know that right!?

So let’s not spend any more time there. Let’s move on to HOW we can work to keep our schedules full! This is an entire team effort and takes everyone to ensure we’re WINNING as a practice.

Here are a few examples and ideas of how anyone in any position can positively impact your hygiene schedule:

  1. EVERY patient leaves with a hygiene appointment!
    • All team members should agree on this and everyone should be double checking a patient’s account before they leave for the day!
  2. Review your schedule in advance, does everyone who’s coming in tomorrow have a hygiene appointment scheduled?
    • What about their family members? Do we need to schedule anyone?
  3. Hole in today’s schedule? Is there anyone before/ after who has family needing to come in? Perhaps someone on the doctor’s schedule(s) that needs to be seen?
    • How can we use what we have to accomplish filling the schedule?
  4. Look at the upcoming schedule to possibly move patients up!
    • PRO TIP: same day/time in upcoming weeks helps patients to remember the day/time you’re moving them to!
  5. Run a solid reactivation campaign whether you think you need to or not
    • This constant exposure makes it easy to get patients in when your schedules aren’t quite full!
  6. Whenever there’s a hole in hygiene or a dental assistants schedule, give them a list of at least 10 patients to call.
    • Again, the exposure makes it so that eventually that patient will return!

No matter what you decide to implement at your practice, ensure that every team member knows the plan and knows how to execute it with success!

A full hygiene schedule pushes the practice towards your revenue goal, let’s make sure there’s not an empty spot in the schedule for weeks to come (except for those new patient blocks that I just know you have in there!).
