How to give the best patient experience

Face it, your business is built on the experience of your patients. Most of  the general public don’t know what a great filling or crown is. However, everyone knows what it feels like to feel great when interacting with others! So how do you give the best patient experience?

Creating a Consistent Experience for all Patients

If your focus isn’t on the patient’s experience, we don’t believe the rest will be easy to manage. Shift your mindset to the experience being the goal and then look at how the “things” you do every day add up to that experience - these are your black and white goals! If you’re looking to know that your patients are happy, well cared for and healthy, track your case acceptance! If your patients are getting an exceptional experience, feel seen/ heard/ valued and trust you (and your team), they will get their treatment done! We promise!!

Maybe you’re sitting there thinking, “ya, I know Dental A Team, I get it. My New Patient experience is TOP NOTCH and we’ve worked super hard on it!” CONGRATS! That makes me really dang happy! Keep that great work up!

AND, add some of those amazing tools you’re using to your established patients' experience as well. Doctors, listen, new patients are necessary to continue building your patient base, but solely focusing on them and forgetting to add those sprinkles of magic to the other patients' experience could mean that while you’re getting them in the front door, they’re walking out the back door. This is called attrition and it’s a real issue in many practices.

Let’s take that New Patient experience focus and break down how we can ensure that ALL of our patients are feeling this great no matter what their appointment is.

Key areas that impact your Patient Experience:

  • Phone skills - often overlooked or missed because you're in the chair!
  • Optimized scheduling - are you on time for all of your appointments, or do you tend to run behind on your schedule? Even the smallest amount of waiting makes a huge difference in a patient's experience of your practice.
  • Treatment planning for need and exceptional health - focusing on more than just the surface level needs inspires trust. Patients like to know that you’re invested in their whole health and who they are, not just the decay they do or do not have.
  • Proper billing - this literally makes and breaks practices. Finances are close to home for patients. When they can’t understand what’s happening or are mis-billed, it instantly ruins trust and pushes patients away.
  • Efficiency across the board - when you’re efficient things aren’t missed and patients LOVE that!

The #1 Secret to Elevating your Patient Experience

The biggest suggestion we can send you (on top of the above items and potentially even more important than them) is to be a good listener. Be invested in your patients, in who they are, what they want, what their lives are like and how you can best serve them and their health goals. Good things come for good people. Do good for them, give them an exceptional experience and watch them magic happen!

By implementing these strategies, you will provide the best patient experience!
