Reviewing TX plans for patient need – forget the insurance!
Reviewing finances for patients’ treatment is quite possibly one of the easiest things that people overcomplicate in the entire patient process. I mean that!
Here’s the deal. We are responsible for ensuring a patient’s dental health and in order to do that we have to put their HEALTH first, correct?! Many dental pro’s forget the health FIRST part and tend to find their fears coming alive when they get to the financial review part. The reality is, you’re providing a service that you should be paid well for. The finances will be figured out when the value on health is there.
So how do you accomplish this?
By forgetting the INSURANCE!! If there were NO INSURANCE ever, would you still diagnose the treatment? Would the patient still need the treatment?? I’m going to venture to say that answer’s a heck yes! And I hear you!
I also hear the peanut gallery hammering in on “but they can’t afford it!”. This may be true and if that’s that case then you need to be smart and be prepared with financial options for patients.
The bottom line is to focus on the patient’s health and let THAT be your guiding start. Let the rest take care of itself. If you prioritize the patient’s treatment (AKA health), it gives them the opportunity to do the same. If you prioritize insurance and act as though it is not affordable… you guessed it… it’s likely that the patient will do the same!
